How can facility leaders prepare plumbing for winter?

Identify plumbing in spaces that are lightly used, hard to heat, or exposed to outdoor conditions. Share those locations with a qualified plumbing professional before winter.
1. Map vulnerable spaces
List utility rooms, exterior-wall plumbing, unused wings, and other areas where staff noticed cold conditions in past winters.
2. Find the records
Gather previous freeze, leak, and repair history. Note whether the underlying cause was addressed or only the immediate damage repaired.
3. Confirm responsibility
Make sure designated staff know whom to call and where the approved emergency procedures are kept. Have a professional identify and label relevant controls.
4. Arrange a review
Ask the plumbing provider to assess the identified areas and recommend appropriate preparation. Keep the work record with the facility plan.
Bring this to your next facility meeting
Cold locations; prior leaks or freezing; provider contact; control labels; approved emergency procedure.
For each open item, record the person responsible, the next action, and the date for review.
These field notes support facility planning. Equipment servicing, diagnosis, and repairs should be handled by appropriately qualified providers.
